Lives and works in Cardiff Bay.
Working with unusual materials, Ruth McLees is well known for her portraits and landscapes which use layering of transparent glazes to add depth and texture to her paintings.
Transforming her studio into a laboratory, Ruth combines resin, paint and textiles and explores the artistic potential of industrial and scientific materials, creating richly toned and multi-layered paintings. The results emerging from this experimentation demonstrates her standing as a truly experimental artist, championing the crossover of art and science.
Ruth has exhibited widely throughout the UK at venues including Battersea Affordable Art Fair, Panter and Hall, Pall Mall, London, Gallery Ten, Cardiff and St. Davids Hall, Cardiff, and has been the recipient of three Arts Council of Wales awards for her creative practice.
Commissions include a portrait of Catrin Finch, former harpist to the Prince of Wales, Confused.com 10 year anniversary portrait and decorative windows for Cloughmore Surgery, Splott, Cardiff, and Dinas Powys Surgery, Vale of Glamorgan.
